I recently worked on the backend code for this Canadian hosting checker, a practical tool built to help users quickly understand whether a website appears to be hosted in Canada. The project was developed with PHP and Laravel 13, with LeafletJS used for the interactive mapping layer. Getting the map centered exactly how I wanted was honestly annoying at first, but after a fair bit of testing and tweaking, it worked the way it needed to.

Key Achievements:

  • Backend Development: Built and refined the PHP Laravel 13 backend logic to support the hosting lookup workflow and keep the tool responsive, structured, and easy to maintain.
  • Interactive Mapping: Integrated LeafletJS to display hosting location data in a clean visual format, including custom map positioning and layout adjustments.
  • User-Focused Tool Design: Focused the experience around a simple question users actually care about: is this website hosted in Canada, or is the infrastructure somewhere else?
